While thinking and researching online about my last Cezanne post I ran across some information on
a major blockbuster Picasso-Cézanne show, at the Musée Granet in Aix, France up now until this September. This show is also close to Picasso’s old castle and burial ground, the Château de Vauvenargues which is in the shadow of Mont St-Victoire northern slope, Cezanne’s famed mountain motif (see video below) Picasso’s Château de Vauvenargues has just opened for public viewing for the first time at the end of this May. Apparently, you can tour his studio which is left exactly as he left it as well as many paintings and opulent delights throughout the estate.
Picasso’s Château de Vauvenargues
Sometime in the late 50’s Picasso was reported to have told his friends that he had just bought Cezanne’s Mont St-Victoire. When asked which painting of Cezanne’s many versions, he replied “the real one”.
Picasso may not offer the kind of inspiration many realist painters prefer but it might be a great vacation opportunity none the less. For those of us like me, who will probably have to take a pass on this one – here is a moderately interesting youtube video on Cezanne’s Mont St-Victoire I ran across. (part 1 and 2) Enjoy. (Don’t worry this isn’t going to turn into an all Cezanne Blog!)
