An article that I will read and re-read!! It captures the spirit of the art and the artist- when I first saw the work I immediately felt of them as Icons (Contemporary Icons to be seen with reverence, technically perfect ) – alive with the energy of the sitter , the artist and the paint itself!!

excellent ….as usual. I know frank’s work and Frank from many years of working together….he’s the REAL THING….A student once ask me who I go to for critique of my work….My answer was no one, but if I did there would be only two people…one of them is Frank Hobbs…one of the best eyes, best minds, and commentators about painting that I know off…

Hi there, I have had a couple of attempts at the above process and although after the suggested amount of time there is corrosion, the yield is very small. I have used plant pots as suggested, filled with cider vinegar and placed in bagged manure in sealed plastic boxes. Am I doing something wrong, should it be fresh manure, should I try a different vinegar, have I got the temperature wrong? Also, could anyone tell me what chemical reaction is actually taking place here as regards the manure and the vinegar, is the manure giving off something that acts as a catalyst for corrosion or is it just to regulate temperature in the boxes? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Really love the work and also the way John is talking about it, very down to earth which is reflected in the texture of the paintings.

The bus ride story is great …

It’s indeed the search and struggle that makes art so fascinating. You don’t get those sparks when you stop too early!

I also find Kelly Hicks’s remark about the grumpy bunch very funny.

I’ve been looking at Frank’s paintings for awhile now, albeit from a distance, in repro, via Facebook or whatever. Nevertheless, I’ve found myself returning to them time and again. These are such intelligent paintings! Not clever, in a facile sort of way, but a real painterly intelligence operating behind every decision.
