David Kapp Go, 2008, oil on linen, 50″ x 48″
Another more visceral cityscape painter in David Kapp whose gestural paint seems to combine sculpting with music, tracing intervals and rhythms of urban movements. Your eye is lead to dance along with his snappy tunes.
You could make a case on why this isn’t perceptual painting, that it is more abstract and about other art than working from observation. Maybe so but I like to think of it as he is working from the memory of the feelings of crowds moving as viewed from above – perception isn’t just about vision, it includes all the senses.

Regardless it is about strong painting and keeping an eye out for the leading painters of the urban scene.
