Here is a link to the trailer for the new movie The God of Small Things, Lucian Freud Captured on Film by the filmmaker Tim Meara. His new film, with footage of Lucian Freud and his Holland Park studio and interviews with people close to Freud will begin showing in time for Freud’s 90th birthday starting March 10 at the Pompidou Center in Paris, as part of the museum’s Freud retrospective.
In the mean time, on youtube I found a 1988 interview with Lucien Freud (in 6 parts) that may be of interest. Here is the part one…

  1. I look forward to the film. The 1988 interview videos are fascinating; thanks for putting them up.

BTW, small point, but according to most biographies, Freud won’t be 90 until 2012.

  2. Seeing Freud’s retrospective in 1993 at the Met changed my life…I can’t wait to see the movie. Thanks for posting and I like the new format.

Thanks Francis. That was an amazing show.I will try to keep an eye open for when this film might be playing in the US, probably go to the University and Museum film centers and the like – if so can be easy to overlook.

Hi Daniel, Maybe the blurb where I got that from (below the film trailer) meant to say that the film would come out before his birthday – and during his retrospective, which are both before 2012? Maybe they thought 90 sounded more impressive than 88? Bizarre.
